Discovery Matrix
Painters by Movement and Market
One grid, two axes. Down one side sit the movements this desk surveys; across the other sit the regional markets that carry them — Russia, Eastern Europe, the Caucasus, the Balkans and the wider international trade. Use the filters to cut the matrix either way. Where a painter's work is held by a gallery, the name links straight through to it.
Giovanni Paolo Panini, Festival in the Piazza Navona. Art Institute of Chicago, public domain.
Reading the Matrix
Every row is a movement — hyperrealism, figurative art, contemporary realism, abstract art, expressionism. Every chip inside it is a painter working within that movement. A Partner tag means the gallery holding the work has an affiliate arrangement with us; the affiliate disclosure sets out what that is worth to whom.

What the Matrix Covers
The matrix exists to close the gap between a movement and the people actually painting inside it. Read across hyperrealism and you get the painters holding that line today; read across figurative work and you get the ones pushing it toward psychological portraiture. Inclusion runs on record alone — exhibition history, museum holdings, or representation by a gallery with a serious catalogue.
Pricing follows the market as much as the painter. The same movement, executed at a comparable level, trades roughly $2,000 to $50,000 across the Russian scene, and moves again once it crosses into Western rooms. The grid maps the field; the outbound link shows what is actually available and at what price today.
Where the Work Is Sold
Most of the Russian names in the grid are held by RakovGallery, a partner gallery that runs the sale, the paperwork, the insurance and the freight. Painters from other markets link straight to whichever gallery carries them.
